Learner Driver Training Centre

The centre was established to assist the underprivileged and poor of our community to obtain learners- and drivers’ licence and enable them to find a job. The centre will also provide companies, seeking employees with a valid driver’s licence, of such a person knowing that this person is trained well and is a competent, safe and responsible driver.
This centre is the first of its kind in the Western Cape.

We use computers to do our learner licence training on and work together with the North West University (Old Potchefstroom University) and their Driver Training Faculty.
Through this centre we will also be hosting the Driving Instructors Training Course, run by North West University, twice a year. This will enable driving instructors to obtain a certificate from the University and a qualification as driving instructor. Another first for the Western Cape. Interested instructors can contact the centre for further information and the dates for the courses.

The learner licence programme is unique in the way that it is password protected on a daily basis and therefore cannot be used other than by the centre. For a small fee the applicant can register with the centre and have unlimited access to training until obtaining their learners licence.

We also do hazard perception training for drivers, both learner drivers and licensed drivers. This is a programme from the UK and teaches how to recognise and look for hazards and how it will affect your driving. This is a wonderful tool in training drivers and bringing down the accident rate. If you as a driver of any motor vehicle is serious about road safety you should do the Hazard Perception Training.

Driving lessons are given by instructors who are in possession of instructors certificates according to Article of of the National Road Traffic Act.

Winning the SEBPC

After exploring the new business venture, Social Enterprise, we were taken by this, as it enables us to have a profit making business within the NPO. This will help the NPO be self-sustainable. On the 15th of December 2010, Alida entered her business plan for a complete Learner Driver Training Centre, to the SEBPC. This competition, started by the Dept. of Economic Development and Tourism with sponsorship from ILO, Unltd, NVDA, The Business Place, Thembeka, DWDE, Seda, Red Door and Ngubane & Co. is the showcase of the Department. During a ceremony on the 14th of February, Alida was announced as a winner in the 2010 SEBPC. A very proud moment for Drive More Safely. During the next few months, there will be many changes, so watch this space to see how this competition helped Drive More Safely grow. Seen with Alida is MEC Allen Winde(MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism).
